The Urban Tour
The Urban Tour is a half-day exploration of four inspiring gardens, each showcasing the creativity and diversity possible within town boundaries. This year’s tour includes a charming new villa garden, alongside a tranquil native oasis with a Japanese-inspired water garden and spaces rich in heritage planting and productivity. Thoughtfully designed and lovingly tended, these gardens offer a mix of structure, softness and abundant seasonal interest.

The garden of
Pip Hair
This garden reflects the owner’s vision of a joyful, restorative retreat. Designed to complement the character of an over 120 year old villa, it balances structure with softness while providing a haven for insects, bees and butterflies. Still evolving, it is the shared work of three Marlborough women: a talented landscape designer, an experienced gardener, and the owner, a self-confessed beginner inspired by her parents.
Moritaki
Andrea and Peter Forrest
Twenty-seven years ago, Moritaki, at the foot of the Wither Hills, was bare clay farmland. Now it is a tranquil and inspiring green oasis, featuring solely New Zealand native plants and abundant birdlife. Designed by Japanese landscaper Hiro Yoshida around a substantial and calming water garden, Moritaki was recently featured in The Contemporary Garden, a new book featuring 300 of the world’s best gardens developed over the last 30 years.

Set on a generous 1040 square metres with a stream boundary, this charming 1910 property features mature trees, heritage roses, hydrangeas and spring-flowering shrubs. Formal topiary and hedging contrast beautifully with lush perennials. A thriving vegetable garden, berries and fruit trees add productivity to year-round visual delight.

Pip and Tony Hawke
A peaceful and sheltered established garden with abundant fruit trees, vegetable gardens and berry enclosure. Formal plantings create rooms for outdoor living, with adjoining productive spaces to nurture compost and generate mulch to feed their soils. A labour of love and happiness.
