Last year we celebrated 30 years of Garden Marlborough. The event was a wonderful success, with record tickets sales and fabulous feedback from attendees, some of whom have been attending since the very beginning! We are excited to be planning our 31st event taking place on the 7th - 10th November 2024, with yet another stellar line up of interesting tours, workshops, and keynote speakers that will captivate you. Tickets go on sale on 22 July and we look forward to welcoming you to sunny Marlborough in November.

The festival involves a huge number of volunteers in the community who generously give their time to bring together the best event of its kind in New Zealand: the friendly and helpful people who staff our registration operation, the tour guides and workshop hosts, helpers at the fete site, those who make lunches and morning teas ,and many, many others. Our event depends on our extraordinary garden owners, who work tirelessly during the year to open their amazing environments for others to share in and be inspired by. Behind Garden Marlborough is a whole community of people, who come together to ensure we bring you a truly unforgettable weekend.

Garden Marlborough In The Community

Garden Marlborough (2004) Inc. is a not-for-profit registered charity. We receive financial support from local businesses and community organisations, but profits from our charity art auction and fund-raising activities in turn help fund local community projects to help achieve our organisation’s vision to promote the pleasures and benefits of gardening and to enhance Marlborough’s environment. We provide community grants and other financial support for local initiatives, we fund horticultural scholarships, and over the years we’ve assisted with improvements to Te Whanau Hou Grovetown Lagoon; developments at Selmes Garden Trust; the establishment of edible gardens and shade trees in local schools; the donation of trees and organisation of planting in public spaces; the gifting of outdoor artwork to Wairau Hospital and in Pollard Park; the development of the garden at Marlborough Hospice and many more community initiatives. From this year, we are helping support a new garden and landscape project at Alzheimers Marlborough. If you know of a worthwhile project that you think would align with our values, then please get in touch: admin@gardenmarlborough.co.nz

Chair’s Welcome

Garden Marlborough is 30! Please join us to celebrate in grand style.

This year, our biggest ever line-up of workshop presenters includes some of Aotearoa’s most stimulating horticultual thinkers and innovators, and we’re delighted to announce appearances from three hugely popular international speakers. Bridget Elworthy and Henrietta Courtauld, aka The Land Gardeners, are here from the UK for the week: giving the keynote talk on Friday evening as well as a soil health workshop, and taking part in a one-off, epic full-day garden tour and masterclass. Plantsman extraordinaire and horticultural rockstar Fergus Garrett will appear in a pre-recorded video presentation from the astonishing Great Dixter in Surrey, in a workshop you’d be crazy to miss.

Our programme of garden tours has undergone an exciting shakeup, with new and more gardens and an expanded range of half-day tours offering increased flexibilty – visit more amazing gardens without missing out on any of your favourite workshops.

The Saturday evening Garden Party returns to legendary Longfield, and on Sunday the fete’s diverse market stalls offer the chance to browse, shop, eat and meet old friends.

Make sure you see the programme insert telling the story of Garden Marlborough’s beginning and early years. The event has been served by many different people and committees over the years and everyone has played their part.

Thank you to all of our loyal sponsors and funding partners, our crucial volunteers and hardworking garden owners, and to you, our guests. We can’t wait to celebrate with you in November.
