He Puāwai – A Natural History of New Zealand Flowers

Holding a new plant book in your hand is the start of a special relationship – these books become much loved references and coffee table treats.

Phil Garnock-Jones has chosen the opening night of Garden Marlborough to share his new book, He Puāwai – A Natural History of New Zealand Flowers, and you are invited.

With the loan of 3D glasses, prepare for something extraordinary as the beautiful native flowers of New Zealand are vividly brought to life on screen.

Hear mind-boggling botanical tales from Phil who has extensive knowledge to share as a former DSIR scientist and Professor of Botany. He will focus on the flowers of some familiar native garden plants and some that deserve to be more widely grown. Ask the questions you have always wanted to know about our native plants and enjoy the unfolding visual spectacle – from the iconic pōhutukawa to flowers you might never have seen.

The vast majority of featured flowers grow nowhere else in the world. Rekindle your love affair with flowers and build your botanical knowledge in an evening with Phil, an internationally renowned expert on plant diversity.

Guests will receive a glass of wine and a small native flower seedling as part of their ticket price.

The stunning book featuring 100 of New Zealand’s native flowers comes with its own 3D viewer and will be available to purchase. Phil is more than happy to sign your own copy following his talk – a perfect personalised gift for Christmas.
