Will & Rose Parsons - Wetland Wildlife & Native Plant Tour
Will & Rose Parsons
Garden Marlborough is thrilled to be presenting a unique new tour this year, a guided visit to the QE II Trust-covenanted wetland alongside the beautiful Opawa River.
Will and Rose Parsons established Driftwood Retreat and Eco-Tours in 2004, to share their love of this special natural sanctuary and the flora and fauna within it, and to spread the message of the importance of its restoration.
All profits from this tour will go towards the restoration of the wetland, supporting work done by FLOW (Friends of the Lower Opawa and Wairau) to protect the unique plants and wildlife of the wetland area.
Wetland Wildlife & Native Plant Tour
Take a guided tour with Will around the wetland, to see and hear how they are restoring it for wildlife such as fernbird, and to view native plant species like Carex secta and Saltmarsh Ribbonwood in their natural habitat. As you walk, see the work of artists specially exhibiting their work in the wetland environment, including work from Rosana Mae, Linda Waimarie King, Paper Rain Project, Deb Hall, Jim Tannock and Jan Thomson.
A champagne breakfast will follow, with a complimentary glass of bubbly donated by Twin Islands Wines.
After breakfast local horticulturalist Grant Robertson, of Morgan’s Road Nursery, will demonstrate techniques of native plant propagation, including seed extraction, preparation and taking cuttings. Transport included and departs from Seymour Square.
