The annual highlight for many of us is the return of Nelmac Garden Marlborough. After a year’s preparation, the event attracts thousands to the wonderful climates and atmosphere of Marlborough. The region consistently showcases the best of itself to visitors from around the country and increasingly around the globe. For all of us who are either involved in planning, supporting or simply enjoy the festival, it is a time of celebration, entertainment and the opportunity to meet and enjoy the wide variety of personalities drawn to the Nelmac Garden Marlborough event.
Much to the confusion of my Kiwi farming relatives, a large skillfully crafted ball of rustic number 8 wire sits proudly in my own garden as a lawn sculpture. It is easily my favourite in the way it contrasts the lawn but also compliments the shapes and colours of the overall garden. For many of us, gardening is art and vice versa, so this year’s theme “Naturally Wired’ is a great one and is perfectly supported by the keynote speaker, Rupert Till.
Rupert is well known in the UK for his amazing outdoor wire sculptures and we’re excited to hear his journey, inspiration and tips on how to create and enjoy art in gardens through sculpture. Rupert’s interpretation of this and how his inspiration is drawn from his own farm and the resident animals to create life size works should not be missed.
As New Zealand’s Premier Garden Event, Nelmac Garden Marlborough is a credit to the region and to the Garden Marlborough Team who bring everything together. Nelmac is proud to support the event as the ongoing naming rights sponsor and to witness the benefits and pleasures it delivers to the region and visitors alike.
There’s much to enjoy and plenty of opportunities to take part. I trust you will all come away from this year’s event feeling “wired”.
Welcome all, to Nelmac Garden Marlborough 2016.
